Help & Advice for boaters in South & West Wales
Condition Report or Survey
A ‘First Impression’ is a brief report to help you decide if the long trip down is going to be worth the trouble. When the advertisement states ‘ready to go’, does it mean to sea or to the scrap yard? I could save you a lengthy, expensive and disappointing trip by providing an independent and brutally frank opinion.
Minor repair or major cost?
Obvious problems would be reported in the basic First Impression, along with advice on suitability for DIY or professional repair.
The Survey
A standard survey is a much more in depth exploration of the vessel. All areas that can be accessed without dismantling are visited and, even on a small vessel of under 20 feet this will take a whole day. But this is just collecting information and photographs. The survey then continues back at the office with a thorough review of the information gathered, perhaps research into vessel and manufacturer history and preparation of the full survey report. Little wonder then that I cannot give you a quick answer to the question ‘is it worth the money?‘ In the end you must decide, and your reason may be emotional as much as anything else. I present the evidence as I find it and help interpret that evidence. Only you can sign the cheque!
What does it cost? Each survey is priced according to the vessel type, construction and customer requirements. When you call I will ask a lot of questions about your intended use and expectations. I will then tailor the survey to you and your requirements.
